Packserv Wins Best Small Business Award for Local Manufacturing Excellence

Sydney-based packaging machinery manufacturer Packserv has been recognised with the Best Small Business Award at the 2025 Australian Manufacturing Awards, acknowledged for its long-term commitment to local manufacturing and investment in innovation.

Packserv manufactures and assembles all its equipment in Marrickville, maintaining operations in Australia while many competitors have shifted offshore. The company said this approach allows it to respond quickly to the needs of FMCG producers, reduce lead times, and provide technical support that helps local manufacturers compete both domestically and internationally.

In 2025, Packserv expanded its Marrickville facility with a new mezzanine floor and invested further in computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) technology. The company also cited innovation through Industry 4.0-enabled equipment such as its PLC Twin Head Filling Machine, which incorporates pre-set configurations, predictive maintenance, and real-time data monitoring to improve production efficiency for small and medium-sized businesses.

Packserv says its equipment is designed with longevity and sustainability in mind, using materials such as 316 stainless steel and 6061 anodised aluminium to extend lifespan and reduce waste. Its “Buy for Life” approach allows customers to refurbish or trade in equipment for reuse within the company’s rental fleet. In 2024, the manufacturer reclaimed and recycled more than 3.1 tonnes of metals, including 1600 kg of stainless steel and 1,400 kg of aluminium.

The company reported a strong 2025 financial year, achieving several record months and a three per cent year-on-year increase in sales. It also recorded a 20 per cent lift in profitability while maintaining its workforce. Operational improvements saw a tripling of manufacturing output and a doubling of spare parts inventory, enabling shorter delivery times and enhanced customer support across Australia and New Zealand.

In the past 12 months, Packserv developed two new machines: the Twin Head PLC Filler with Industry 4.0 capability and the Square Infeed Conveyor, aimed at improving production efficiency and accessibility for small manufacturers.

Looking ahead, the company says it is launching a four-head 5-litre pneumatic filling machine designed for food, pharmaceutical, and industrial use, and is expanding its international presence through distribution partnerships.
