For two decades, Packserv has supported Australian manufacturers designing and manufacturing packaging machinery for industries including FMCG, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, personal care and industrial chemicals.
Over that time, the company has built a reputation for practical engineering, local technical support and machinery designed to scale alongside growing businesses.
As manufacturers continue to navigate rising operating costs, labour shortages and increasing production pressures, Packserv has focused its investment on automation and technology to improve efficiency, flexibility and long-term productivity.
“Manufacturers today need equipment that is adaptable and capable of growing with their business,” says Nathan Wardell, Managing Director of Packserv.
“The focus is no longer simply on output. Businesses are looking for smarter production systems that improve efficiency, reduce downtime and provide greater visibility across operations.”
A key part of this investment has been the expansion of Packserv’s PLC-driven machinery range.
Designed and manufactured in Australia, the company’s PLC-driven filling and capping machines represent the next stage in intelligent production systems.
Following the successful launch of Packserv’s PLC Twin-Head Filling Machine, Packserv has recently introduced the PLC Four-Head Filling Machine.
It has been developed to deliver high throughput while maintaining flexibility, safety and hygiene compliance across a range of industries.
The machine is suitable for food and pharmaceutical, HACCP and TGA-compliant environments, as well as industrial facilities requiring IECEx or ATEX-rated equipment.
Packserv’s PLC Four-Head Filler features four independent filling heads capable of dispensing between 500ml and 5000ml per stroke.
Multi-shot functionality also allows manufacturers to fill larger containers, including 200L drums and 1000L IBCs, making the system suitable for diverse production requirements across a single packaging line.
A defining feature of the machine is its fully pneumatic operation. By using compressed air and eliminating electrical components at the point of fill, the system helps reduce ignition risk in facilities handling volatile products while also supporting wash-down capability for hygienic processing environments.
Its bottom-up filling action is designed to minimise foaming, splashing and product loss across a range of liquids, including detergents, oils, sauces and industrial chemicals.
Constructed from 316-grade stainless steel with tool-free disassembly, the machine also supports efficient cleaning and compliance with strict manufacturing standards.
“We developed the PLC Four-Head and Twin-Head Filling machine range to address a growing demand for robust pneumatic solutions that easily integrate into modular production lines,” said Wardell.
“These machines incorporate advanced automation features and production data monitoring.”
Packserv has also launched an Industry 4.0-enabled PLC-controlled capping machine designed to simplify production while improving operational consistency.
Equipped with an HMI touchscreen interface, the machine allows operators to navigate settings, switch between products and save job configurations to reduce downtime during changeovers.
Built-in production tracking provides real-time visibility of throughput and completed jobs, helping manufacturers make faster, more informed production decisions.
The machine’s PLC architecture also enables real-time data capture and consistent control logic across a variety of container and cap formats.
“The PLC Capper was developed to simplify production while maintaining consistency across every run,” explained Wardell.
“Manufacturers are managing increasingly diverse product ranges, so the ability to quickly adjust settings, minimise downtime and maintain accuracy is essential.”
A major focus for Packserv is making advanced automation accessible to small and medium-sized manufacturers, rather than limiting Industry 4.0 technology to large multinational operations.
Through Packserv’s “Buy for Life” program, equipment is also designed to be upgraded and supported over time through locally manufactured parts and Australian-based technical support.
To further improve accessibility, alongside purchase, Packserv also offers rent and rent-to-buy options, helping manufacturers adopt automation without the need for upfront capital investment.
“We understand that every manufacturer is at a different stage of growth,” said Wardell.
“Our goal is to make automation more accessible and to provide scalable solutions that support businesses as they expand production.”
Alongside ongoing innovation, the company has expanded its international presence, recently launching into the United States through Packserv’s representative, FP Developments.
“There is strong global demand for machinery that combines ease of use with compact, modular designs,” said Wardell.
“Australian manufacturing has a reputation for practical engineering and high-quality equipment, and we’re seeing growing interest from manufacturers overseas.”
Packserv has also strengthened its local offering through strategic distribution agreements, including its recent appointment as the Australian distributor for SIAT, a global manufacturer of end-of-line packaging equipment.
The alliance expands Packserv’s capabilities in case sealing, carton handling and pallet wrapping machinery, allowing the company to deliver more integrated packaging line solutions.
Despite ongoing challenges facing Australian manufacturing, including supply chain pressures, labour shortages and rising operational costs, Packserv remains focused on continued investment in Australian manufacturing.
“With continued investment in innovation, automation and local manufacturing capability, Australia has a significant opportunity to remain globally competitive,” said Wardell.
“Manufacturers are embracing smarter technologies and compact, end-to-end modular production lines, and we’re proud to be supporting that transition.”
